The proposal of the University of Magdeburg addresses research on neurobiological differences between pedophilic and non-pedophilic offenders as well as pedophilic and non-pedophilic non-offenders. Affected neurobiological structures and regulatory circuits, which are involved in development of deviant sexual behavior as well as behavioral control, will be identified. In addition to the understanding of the underlying brain dysfunction, differential diagnostic, non-invasive biomarkers will be acquired. In particular, measurements in high-field MRI will occur whereby specific midbrain structures in their single circuits including the molecular display of neurotransmitters (Glutamate and GABA) will be acquired multimodally.
